In grade 8 science today, students were paired up and shared something interesting that they had observed over the weekend. We then went around the class and shared our observations. Some things of interest:
- a car crash was seen on the highway. Student wondered what are the most common types of accidents?
- Student wondered how pencils are made
- A couple were observed having a fight on the sidewalk, when finally the male walked away. Student wondered if it’s always the male that walks away?
Nothing earth shattering, but interesting. This activity was appreciated because our discussion really brought out how interesting the world is, if we take the time to observe it. It was also noted that if we make an interesting observation, we naturally have some questions that we want answered. The students really enjoyed the activity, I think it left them with a feeling of agency.
