Science 8 – March 4
Students were given a problem where they had to design an optical system that concentrated light and then reflected it around a couple of corners. This was a good task for the students to apply some basic ideas (reflection from a plane mirror) into something more complex. Prior to doing this problem I had shown the class my Newtonian reflector telescope, which functions with the same principles (a curved mirror to collect light and a plane mirror to direct the image through the eyepiece).
